Mike Nelson To Compete In Lucas Oil Sportsman Series In 2012

By Ashley McCubbin – Peterborough Speedway Mini Stock Competitor Mike Nelson announced at the end of the 2011 season that he’d be moving up to the Lucas Oil Sportsman Series for 2012.

“I’m really excited, looking forward to getting my feet wet with my first real race car,” he says. “I’m also looking forward to traveling and having such a short schedule so I can have time to spend on other parts of my life. I’m super excited looking at the challenge ahead, trying to get used to rear-wheel drive instead of front-wheel drive.”

On October 1st, Nelson made his series debut at Flamboro Speedway, finishing in the 10th position.

The Peterborough, Ontario native will be running a 2012 Camero body with sponsorship from R&J Machine, Napa Auto Parts in Bridgenorth, Fawcett Fire Wood and Stonebridge by the Bay.

Nelson has been racing for six years now, winning the 2006 Peterborough Speedway Four Fun Championship and the 2010 Kawartha Speedway Championship.

Last season, Nelson finished eighth in Peterborough’s Mini Stock standings with three feature victories and sixth in Kawartha Speedway’s Mini Stock standings.
